We receive personal information from events and participants in the regular course of providing timing and results services. This privacy policy answers some of your most frequently asked questions, and lets you know exactly how we're protecting the information you entrust to us.

In the course of providing results for sporting events, we may display some or all of the following personal information for the
participants of events that we provide timing and results services:
This information is the industry standard for results display and in some cases required by various governing bodies for individual sports (including but not limited to Athletics Canada, Triathlon Canada, Cycling Canada) This data has been provided to us by the registration provider, and is stored on our Canadian-based servers.
For most events we will require age or date of birth to process results. We will only use that information internally to calculate an AGE GROUP/DIVSION to attach to your online result.
If required by the event, we may disclose this information to another company for the purposes of displaying results, calculating series points or other sport verification purposes. For example, following a certified Marathon, we pass on personal information to the Boston Athletic Association for verification of qualifying standards for the Boston Marathon. In these cases, date of birth, age, city, province may also be provided. We may also at the request of the event organizers provide a link between your result and a photography company contracted by the event to match up race photos to your race number and online result.
Email: in some cases email addresses will be provided to us in order to send event specific information to the participants. We will never use your email to send any emails that are: - not directly related to the specific event that you have registered, - only marketing in nature designed to promote other goods and services.
In some cases events may contract us send SMS messages to provide race result information (only) to participants or people who have signed up to receive your results. Consent for this will be EXPLICITLY PROVIDED in the event registration process to receive event related SMS messages. You may opt out at any time by contacting us directly. You may also edit or revoke any access to someone who has signed up to receive your results by SMS by contacting us directly before the race starts.
For some events, we may be requested to allow people to register to track you via SMS during the event. If you sign up, you’re agreeing to receive the SMS messages for the participants you want to follow. If you’re a participant, people may receive a SMS message indicating your progress during the race. A SMS message will contain your name, event the timed segment (mid course or finish time).
When you register for an event that we are providing timing related services, you provide the event organizers with certain personal information to participate. In that process, you typically sign a waiver which enables the event and its suppliers access to this information to conduct the business of the event and in our case, to provide timing and results services. We assume you consent to our collecting it and using it for that specific reason only.
In the case where you would like to have your information hidden on our website, you may contact us through our website for removal if information due to privacy concerns. We will then remove all specific information to your entry, while keeping an anonymous record in place for sporting purposes. For example, 3rd place - JANE DOE F45-59 VANCOUVER, BC will be changed to 3rd place – ANONYMOUS PARTICIPANT, F4559 VANCOUVER, BC. This will eliminate all identifying information displayed on our site. In this example we will leave in a placeholder in 3rd place so that in a sporting manner, the runners below do not move up a place by removing your information. In the event a photo is linked from a 3rd party to your online record we will also eliminate that link from our site.
We are not responsible for removing any data appearing on other websites. This includes but not limited to Google Searches, other results providers for the event not affiliated with Startline Timing, results providers that scrape results from our site, Governing Bodies etc even if the original data came from us or by request of the event organizers. All participants must deal with the individual websites specifically that are displaying their event result information.
When you visit our website, we also collect: - information about your computer, including your IP address, the type of operating system and browser you use, and your computer's location - what pages you visit on our site and what links you click on - who referred you to our site (e.g. the event organizers, Google, etc)
